Broward police arrested a 33-year-old mentally disturbed man on charges of attempting to murder another, after hearing voices telling him to “kill the Cuban”.
On April 18, Jaime Angelino Allende, a resident of an independent living facility for people with mental illnesses, in the 500 block of Northwest 9th Street, in Fort Lauderdale, took a knife, entered the victim's bedroom and began stabbing him in the head and neck while he was sleeping, indicated agents from the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
According to the arrest report, Allende stated that he began to hear voices ordering him to kill the Cuban, said a report from the channel Local 10 News.
The victim was the only person of that nationality residing in the center at that time. Authorities have not revealed his identity.
The incident was witnessed by a roommate who was sleeping in the room and told police he woke up and saw Allende stabbing the victim.
Allende himself called 911 and said he would surrender. He was arrested and faces a charge of attempted murder.
The victim was rushed to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital. According to the authorities, He is not expected to survive his injuries..
