The mother of a Cuban woman who was shot dead by her ex-partner in Florida City, a city in Miami-Dade, needs a humanitarian visa to be able to say goodbye to her daughter.
Odelsa Márquez, mother of Yessenia Rodríguez Márquez, is in Ecuador; from there she is asking for the help of a politician or immigration lawyer to obtain a visa that will allow her to travel to the United States to say a final goodbye to her daughter.
"I cannot close that chapter, although one never closes the chapter as a mother, but at least, with a goodbye where I hugged her, where I talked to her even though she is deceased; I have not been able to have that, and it is something that is needed," she told Telemundo 51.
Yessenia, 44, had only been in the country for nine months when on April 22 she was shot dead inside a car by her ex, Alexander Roque, 48. After committing the crime, the man drove to the Police station with the body in the passenger seat.
"I want to understand it and I can't... not because I am the mother, but because no one who understands what it is to feel love for others, is capable of doing such a barbaric thing," Odelsa questioned.
The victim's body has not been handed over to the family by the Police because the investigation is in its initial phase.
Yessenia and her 12-year-old daughter arrived in the United States thanks to a humanitarian parole presented by the girl's father. They all lived together until she met Roque.
That new relationship lasted only three months. According to Odelsa, her daughter decided to leave the house of the now accused because he began to display a violent attitude.
"We need a niche for her, because her little girl has wanted her to stay there. Otherwise, I would go, pick up the ashes and bring them, but the girl wants her mom to stay there with her," he requested.
According to the arrest report, before being detained, the killer sent photos of Yessenia's corpse to his mother and ex-husband.
"What a more horrible thing as a human being... if you can even call it a human being," the lady expressed.
