Lester Domínguez Ortiz, the teenager who just over a year ago was attacked with a machete during the violent robbery of his phone in the town of San Germán in Holguín, is dissatisfied with the trial against his aggressor, as revealed by his father, Dennis Domínguez, on social media.
In an extensive text published on Facebook, Dennis Domínguez expressed his fear that the accused would be benefited by the court.
There in the penitentiary, the pending time is in the kitchen and outside, comments from inmates and guards say that he is Gámez's family, who is in charge of the Provisional, threatening the inmates by saying that this is his godson and that nothing can happen to him. Enjoying better privileges," Domínguez complained about the alleged perks that Adrian Grass Bermúdez, accused of seriously injuring Lester in March 2023, would be enjoying in prison.
He also pointed out that he was taken to the trial - which concluded for sentencing this Wednesday - in a modern car, while the other inmates are transported in a police vehicle "cage" that is specifically for that purpose.
How far does the corruption of this country go? They do not respect the people and the laws remain flexible, while crime roams freely [...] If you throw a stone and protest in the streets to claim your rights, they don't hesitate to give you a 15-year sentence," he questioned, comparing the different standards used to judge common criminals and political prisoners.
The prosecution's request against Grass Bermúdez - the only accused after the other assailant hanged himself - is 24 years of deprivation of liberty: 20 years for robbery with violence and intimidation, and four years for continuous theft of cell phones.
Lester Domínguez Ortiz's father explained that during the hearing, he was asked only two questions: if he knew the assailant of his son and if the assailant's family had provided any help.
Dennis Domínguez said that his son had been the boyfriend of the aggressor's sister and that the aggressor's family helped his own for three or four months after the events.
However, he pointed out that the questions were "incoherent" and regretted that there was no investigation into the current state of the teenager, whose ability to walk again is unknown, and who is currently even going through a feverish process.
Domínguez also criticized that there were no questions about the expenses that the family has had to incur during the recovery of their son.
The father of the minor, who is currently 17 years old, insisted that Lester is very disappointed with the Cuban government, "but not with the people who have supported him at all times since the incident occurred."
In another previous post this same week related to the course of the trial, Dennis Domínguez suggested that during the oral hearing an attempt was made to present the assailant who hanged himself as the main perpetrator of the events, but he noted that Adrián was the one who had a machete after the attack on his son and that it was in his backyard where that weapon and the teenager's cell phone were found. Additionally, his blood was on the clothing.
More than a year after being the victim of a brutal machete attack in Holguín, Lester Domínguez Ortiz still has not been able to walk again.
