A serious traffic accident occurred on Monday night on 5th Avenue, in the Miramar neighborhood of Havana, in the municipality of Playa, as confirmed by a shocking video circulated on social media.
Despite the sorry state in which the vehicles involved were left, apparently, there were only injuries in the traffic incident, although it is not confirmed.
The video posted shows an injured person sitting on the ground and another person trapped inside the vehicle, a tourist car that, according to a witness's account, collided with a BMW that stopped several meters away from where the Tur ended up.
"The BMW was coming in hard in 5th gear and the Tur came out suddenly, hit it on the side, and flipped several times. The Tur's engine detached and landed inside a house while the BMW came to a stop a block away. The owner had entered the country only two hours before," said a witness.
The injuries were for the one in the Tur, who fractured on all sides and lost the toes of his feet, I believe, as well as for the passenger. The ones in the BMW did not suffer anything serious," added the same source.
Several internet users agreed to place the accident at 5th Avenue and 98th Street.
"Someone who explains well. That's my area. There's a car at 98 and another one reaching 110. How did that happen?" asked a disbelieving commentator upon seeing the images.
In the video, dozens of people gather around the Tur, many of them just recording and not attempting to assist the injured person or trying to stop a car to take him to the hospital, something that has sparked deep indignation in the comments section of the images in the Buses & Trucks Accidents group.
"Cars keep passing by and none of them stops," a woman is heard exclaiming scandalized after several cars passing through the area did not stop despite the delicate scene.
Some Internet users have questioned what the car in the video collided with, judging by the amount of vehicle fragments scattered along the avenue.
Many others have speculated that at least one of those involved would have been speeding, as they believe that only in this way could such damage be caused to the bodywork of both cars.
"That area is 5th Avenue, with a minimum speed of 80 on the left and 60 on the right, and almost always people drive over 80 because it is a fast lane, so the impact must have been quite strong. Hopefully, there won't be any human losses to regret," a driver pointed out.
Until the closing of this report, there are no other confirmed details about the traffic accident.
Accidents of all kinds show no mercy on Cuban roads since the beginning of the year, following the same trend that was already established in 2023.
Last year, 729 people lost their lives in Cuba as a result of traffic accidents. Authorities recorded 8,556 road accidents that left 5,938 injured. Human error was responsible for 91% of these incidents, authorities stated.
