Although the physical distance separates them, Ariel Ramos Perdomo and Martha, the viral grandmother, have not lost communication. A video call between them can be as fun as any of the videos they starred in on social media, but it can also be filled with sadness and longing.
On Instagram, Martha's "grandson" shared a video of the two of them chatting, in which she confidently says to him, "I'm fine. I know you don't want to be there, I know, come here, come here, darling."
"I do want to be here," Ariel responds amidst laughter, and she asks him: "Do you really want to be there in that crap?"
"This here is so beautiful, you have to come and see for yourself," Ariel tells her trying to cheer her up, to which Martha responds somewhat insulted: "Stop talking nonsense, I'm not going to see anything. Is that supposed to be beautiful? Look at how beautiful it is here too."
Even though Ariel insists for her to come visit for a month and get to know the United States, the grandmother retorts that she does not want to get to know that country.
"This is the most beautiful thing we have, and you had it too, you jerk, and you left because you felt like it," Martha assures him.
Ariel explains to Martha that they put him on parole, but Martha does not understand and tells him he should have stayed with his mommy: "I am your mommy."
"What I wanted most in my life and you left for that foolishness," Martha says amidst insults that hide the great affection she feels for this grandson who is not of blood but of heart, and she even confesses that she has cried for him after his departure.
