The Forecast Center of the Cuban Meteorology Institute issued an alert this Friday for intense rains and strong winds in the western and central regions of the country.

A special note signed by the director of that organization, Miriam Teresita Llanez, explains that the island is under an anticyclonic influence in the Atlantic, which imposes a humid flow in the lower levels of the troposphere; and the presence of an upper trough over the Gulf of Mexico that, along with tropical waves south of Cuba, favor the occurrence of showers, rain, and thunderstorms.

Therefore, INSMET indicates that favorable meteorological conditions will persist over the next few days for precipitation to occur in much of the country, mainly in the central and western regions.

These conditions will persist throughout Saturday, Sunday, and next week, so the rains will continue to be strong and intense, as detailed in the publication.

It also clarifies that these conditions are normal for this time of the year, which makes June, on average, the rainiest month in Cuba.

The eve saw striking images of the Thursday floods in Havana caused by these torrential rains.
