Cuban singer María Antonieta among those affected by fire in Miami apartment building

The singer doesn't know anything about her cat since the accident.

Cuban singer María Antonieta Fernández is among those affected by the fire in a building in Miami that on Monday morning caused more than 40 residents of the building to be displaced from their homes.

The artist herself, 68 years old, informed on her social media that she was okay, although she regretted not knowing anything about her cat.

"I'm okay... I don't know anything about my kitten... That breaks my heart. The building is still on fire. God willing, we are all okay, except for the building manager… Thanks to everyone who is concerned," wrote the singer in a Facebook post while the firefighters were still trying to put out the fire.

María Antonieta - who recently celebrated her 50 years of artistic career with a show at the Alfaros club, in Little Havana - even broadcasted live the moment when firefighters and emergency services began arriving in the area.

The artist, who emigrated to Miami in 2012, did not provide any other details about her current situation, in other words, whether she is staying with family, friends, or has used the shelter set up by Mayor Francis Suarez for those affected by the disaster.

The calls reporting a fire that broke out in the Temple Court apartments, near downtown Miami, prompted a quick response from the Miami Fire Department at around 8:15 a.m. on June 10th.

Upon arriving at the scene, the firefighters managed to successfully rescue the residents who were stranded on the balconies of the building.

Francis Suárez worked together with the Red Cross to quickly help displaced people at the "José Martí" gym by providing them with hot meals, medications, and organizing temporary shelter options for those who could not stay with family or friends.

Manolo Reyes, the city commissioner, explained that they will be giving a $250 gift card for food and essential toiletries to each person who enters the shelters set up in Miami.

The residents affected by the fire, many of them elderly, will receive assistance for their urgent needs.

The person found injured by a gunshot at the entrance of the building was identified as an employee of Atlantic Housing Management, the company that manages the apartments. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition, as reported by Local 10 this Monday.

In the last few hours, the identity of the man who allegedly shot the building manager and caused an intentional fire in the property was revealed. He is a 73-year-old man named Juan Francisco Figueroa, who has a criminal record as he was sentenced in 1992 for a second-degree murder.

The man is now facing charges of attempted murder with a firearm, felony, and arson, according to the jail records.

The fire, which lasted at least five hours, caused the partial collapse of the roof of the western sector of the building, defying even the persistent downpour that fell during the emergency.
