Favorable atmospheric conditions typical of this time of year led to the formation of a funnel cloud or cloud tail, as these natural phenomena are commonly known, reported a local source.

"No damages reported so far, the sighting amounted to nothing more than a scare for those who observed the phenomenon from their balconies," the note added.

However, the source noted that local authorities were investigating any kind of impact on the areas near the area.

So far, the official Cuban press has not reported any damages as a result of the meteorological phenomenon.

It is the second event of its kind in the province of Matanzas in just one week.

On June 5th, a tornado caused material damages to almost twenty houses in the town of San Antonio de Cabezas, in the municipality of Unión de Reyes.

Marixma Miyares, director of the Provincial Meteorological Center, clarified later that the damages caused were the result of a "severe local storm" accompanied by strong winds, and not a tornado. However, those who lived it firsthand identified the phenomenon as such: as a tornado.

Last December, another tornado struck, in this case in the municipality of Los Arabos, causing damage to at least 11 homes, although no injuries or loss of human lives were reported.
