At this moment, all measures are being taken to keep the machine running and to prevent any additional technological damage on top of what is happening in the fuel tank," the information detailed.

However, it does not specify if there are any victims.

The journalist Lazaro Manuel Alonso had reported on his Facebook page that "one of the two oil tanks that supply the plant" was being consumed by the flames.

A few days ago, another similar accident broke out in the brush areas near the Supertankers Base of Matanzas and the Rayonitro company, close to Guitera in the Bay of Matanzas.

The point of origin of that fire was behind the water tanks. According to authorities, that area is far from the area where the new tanks are being built.

However, these incidents bring to the memory of the residents of Matanzas the fateful incident at the Supertanqueros Base, which occurred at sunset on August 5, 2022, when a lightning strike hit a tank containing 40 thousand gallons of fuel.

The flames spread to three other warehouses that stored fuel oil and crude oil from the refinery in Matanzas Bay. The fire was active for several days, leaving 17 people dead and over a hundred injured.
