Cuban filmmaker asks for help for his grandparents affected by building fire in Miami.

Imagine what it means to start from scratch at 70 years old. That was not just a building for elderly people, it was our family's home.

A young Cuban is asking for help for his grandparents, two of the residents of a residential building that caught fire in a fire that occurred last Monday in Miami.

Hansel Porras García, a filmmaker, revealed on his Facebook profile that his grandparents Milagros and Fide, who lost all their belongings in the fire that occurred at the Temple Courts residential complex located at 431 NW 3rd St, Miami, FL 33128.

"Imagine what it means to start from scratch at 70 years old," he said.

That was not just a building for elderly people, it was our family's home. The place that welcomed me on sad days, where we gathered to laugh and enjoy moments together, the home of our dear matron," she explained.

Hansel thanked God that there were no loss of lives and added that now his family is seeking ways to cope with the difficult situation, so they need relatives and friends to donate whatever they can to help their grandparents, who lost "everything they have worked so hard to build in recent years."

"Our family, devastated by the loss of that home that brought us together so many times," he emphasized.

These days, other requests for help from relatives of low-income elderly people who have been left helpless in the disaster that occurred in Miami have been known.

The journalist Ivette Leyva Martínez opened an account on the GoFundMe platform to raise money for her mom, Martha Martínez, who also lost everything in the disaster.

"After 20 years in Miami, at 76 years old and with several health problems, my mother becomes a refugee again and will have to start over," Leyva explained.

"I turn to my wide network of friends in search of their support after this tragic event. Any help is welcome," she concluded.

More than 40 residents of the four-story apartment building in Miami that caught fire on Monday were displaced from their homes. Many moved in with relatives, while others had to seek shelter.

Local 10 witnessed the transfer of several residents, mostly over 60 years old, in Miami trolleys. Some were accompanied by their pets.

During the extinguishing operations, the firefighters found a gunshot victim at the entrance of the building, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He was later identified as an employee of Atlantic Housing Management, the company that manages the apartments.

Among those affected is the Cuban singer María Antonieta Fernández, who livestreamed the moment when the firefighters and emergency services arrived at the scene.

The artist was forced to leave her home in her pajamas and couldn't save anything, not even the computer where she stored all her artistic material and recordings.

He said he was in the bathroom when it all started, and that the smoke entered his apartment very quickly because the fire broke out very close to his home.

The firefighters knocked on doors, checked, and took care of evacuating those who could not exit on their own, he explained.
