Vilma Gil, a 51-year-old Cuban mother residing in Hialeah, has been missing for two weeks.
The woman, the mother of a five-year-old girl, was last seen on June 1 when she left her house at noon heading to a beauty salon, as she had plans to get ready for her daughter's end-of-year party the following day.
Her trail was lost at a gas station on 157th Avenue and Kendall Drive. Investigations revealed that Vilma never arrived at the hair salon.
The following day, the police authorities found his abandoned car on mile 32 of 8th Street in the Everglades, in a dark area near a lake.
Inside the vehicle were his belongings, but not his cell phone or a credit card.
"I didn't notice anything unusual about her. I found her in good spirits; I never imagined that this would be the last time I would talk to her for a long time," her husband, Alexei Licea, said in statements toUnivision.
The man recounts that he tried to contact her several times without success until he thought her phone had run out of battery. That same night, he reported it to the police.
"It has been very difficult days, having to deal with this situation where one does not know what has happened," the man concluded.
Digna Gil, sister of the missing Cuban, appears even more desperate as she pleads for help in finding her sister.
"Everywhere I go, I look around to see if I can find her, but to no avail... I'm relying on God, on you, and on everyone who is working on the case," the woman said to the media outlet.
Digna Gil urged the community to report any information that could lead to the whereabouts of her sister.
Local authorities continue the investigation and are asking anyone with relevant information to contact the Miami-Dade County Police Department.
The family is also organizing community searches and is requesting the participation of anyone who can help.
