The next Miss Universe Cuba could be a young balsera, a humble migrant newly arrived in the United States who is striving to achieve her dream.
After 57 years, Cuba will once again have a representative in the Miss Universe competition, thanks to a pageant organized in Miami that will select the candidate from Cuban contenders in exile.
This Monday, the official press conference for the event took place. Venezuelan designer Prince Julio César, President and National Director, announced that Miss Universe aims to include over 120 countries in the upcoming competition, which will be held in November in Mexico.
The Miss Universe Cuba pageant will take place on September 15 in Miami, and it promises to be a historic opportunity for many young women who have left their country in search of a better future.
"Most of these young women were born in Cuba. They have arrived in the United States by raft, by boat, or have come here through a visa," said Julio César, emphasizing the strength of Cuban women and their struggle for freedom.
The Miss Universe Organization has decided to open the doors to Cuba, provided there are no ties to the island's government. The choice of Miami as the venue for the competition is not coincidental; this city is home to the largest Cuban exile community.
The call for participation in the contest closed a few days ago. Over 500 Cuban women applied. The list of preselected candidates consists of 100, from which only 20 will advance to the final in September.
This pageant is not only a platform to showcase the beauty and talent of Cuban women in exile, but also an opportunity to send a powerful message to the world—proof that, despite the challenges, Cuban women can dream and achieve significant goals.
The contest will be broadcast live on Mega TV, featuring Ismael Cala as the host. Additionally, notable personalities such as Alicia Machado and Sissi Fleites will be part of the judging panel.
