The Weather Forecast Center of the Cuban Meteorology Institute (INSMET) reported this Tuesday the occurrence of abundant rainfall in the national territory, with a special intensity in the western region of the country.
"It will dawn with cloudy skies prevailing in the west, with some showers in the Isla de la Juventud and the westernmost part. It will be partly cloudy in the rest of the country and occasionally cloudy in coastal areas with isolated showers," the institution stated on its website.
From midday, "cloudy skies will spread over much of the country with some showers and thunderstorms, which will be numerous in the western half of Cuban territory and could be strong in some areas".
Images and videos shared on his social media by the official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso allowed to observe the torrential rains in municipalities in the central-southern region of Pinar del Río province.
There will be rough seas in the south of the Isle of Youth and Pinar del Rio, choppy seas on the rest of the southwestern coast, and light waves on the rest of the coasts. In areas with rain and thunderstorms, the wind strength and wave height may increase, INSMET warned.
The high humidity of the weather will combine with high temperatures as well, with "maximums ranging between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, higher in inland areas". According to the Institute, nighttime temperatures will range from 26 to 29 degrees Celsius, reaching higher levels in the southeastern region.
Fortunately, there will be light winds (between 10 and 25 kilometers per hour) blowing from the east to the southeast in the western regions and from the northeast to the east in inland and central northern locations.
"In the western end and Isle of Youth, winds can reach up to 35 kilometers per hour with higher gusts. Winds will be weak and variable in the rest of the national territory," the weather report stated this Tuesday.
On the other hand, the Cuban meteorologist Raydel Ruisanchez warned on Facebook about the possible formation of the first tropical cyclone of the season, and located the system in "the southwest of the Gulf of Mexico, maintaining a broad circulation with winds of tropical storm force but distant from its central region."
"The most important aspect of this system continues to be the heavy rains expected over the next few days with significant accumulations in parts of southern Texas, northeastern Mexico, Yucatan, western Central America, and to a lesser extent towards the western tip of Cuba," he stressed.
