Mexicana de Aviación will fly to Havana and Miami.

Mexicana de Aviación airline plans to expand its flight routes to 11 destinations abroad, including Havana and Miami.

Thanks to the acquisition of 20 new Brazilian Embraer aircraft, the company will expand its operations to the international market in countries such as Canada, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Colombia, and Peru, in addition to Cuba and the United States.

The company would join Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus, and Magnicharters, the three airlines that currently fly to Cuba from the Aztec country, according to data from the company ECASA.

Mexicana currently operates from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), located in the municipality of Zumpango, 44 km north of Mexico City.

According to the newspaper Excelsior, on June 3rd, it reported the purchase of 20 Embraer 190 and 195 planes with a capacity of 108 and 132 passengers, respectively. The first five will be delivered to the state-owned company in 2025, another seven in 2026, and the remaining 12 in 2027.

The company started operating in December of last year and flies to 18 domestic destinations.

Founded in 1921, Mexicana de Aviación was the oldest airline in Mexico. It had its last flight in 2010, the year its operations were suspended to proceed with a legal process. In 2014, a judge declared it bankrupt.

In 2023, the Mexican government purchased it and placed it under the responsibility of the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA), in a new company called Mexican State Airline.
