Carlos Núñez-Sosa, son of a Honduran mother and Cuban father, was accepted to 17 prestigious universities in the United States, including Harvard, Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Although the young man received affirmative responses from 17 out of the 25 universities he applied to, he ultimately decided to enroll at MIT because, in his own words, he is drawn to its energetic, social, and collaborative community, as well as the opportunity to "study something very advanced."

In an interview given to Univisión Contigo, which was shared by the young man's mother on Facebook, Núñez-Sosa explained, "I went hard on the applications because I felt that this was the moment to put in everything I had, even though I knew it was going to be very tough."

About the reception of acceptance letters, he said that at that moment he couldn't believe what was happening: "I opened a few that said no to get ready".

His parents were a major source of inspiration, stated the young virtuoso. "I grew up working with them, and from all that work, it motivated me to do my part to move forward."

Núñez-Sosa explained that he also owes to his parents his way of being, his behavior, and the guidance towards the Catholic faith.

Gladis and Yuniel arrived in the United States two decades ago: "My dad came first, then my mom did, but they knew each other before."

The young Cuban-origin man, whose story of acceptance into elite universities in the United States has been inspiring to many, sent a simple yet powerful message to high school students who now see him as a role model: "You have to try and give your 100%."

Recently, Layra de la Caridad Valdés Ramírez, a young Cuban born in Havana, graduated from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) and dedicated that triumph to her parents.

According to the recent graduate, those who have made a great sacrifice for her to rise triumphant in the United States have been her parents, who gave up their professional careers and emigrated to give her the opportunity to have a better future.

"My mother went from being a laboratory director in a hospital to cleaning bathrooms as a housekeeper. My father, who has a Master's degree in Chemistry, now works in a warehouse. It was difficult for them to learn a new language, and they still struggle every day to communicate," Layra stated.

Also in recent days, a young Cuban woman in the United States graduated from her high school in Florida, proudly wearing a sash with the Cuban flag, paying tribute to her roots.

This moment, which has quickly gone viral on TikTok, was shared by its protagonist @imkarlarei1, who has gained the approval of the Cuban community on the platform, moving many people on the island with her gesture.
