Tarará accident; there are five injured who went directly to the emergency room. The driver had a heart attack and crashed into the bridge. The Emergency Medical Service (SIUM) performed maneuvers on the driver, but he did not survive," a user stated in the Facebook group 'Bus & Truck Accidents'.

At the time of writing this note, neither the authorities nor the official Cuban press are echoing the tragic event. This editorial team contacted the alleged witnesses who claimed on social media that the cause of the accident was the heart attack suffered by the driver, but has not received confirmation or further details of what happened.

Yesterday, a user of this group reported the incident and shared images of what happened, confirming that there was "a deceased person on the ground" and acknowledging not knowing the causes of the accident.

His photograph showed a minivan that had crashed into the guardrail of a bridge in Tarará, apparently without any other vehicle being involved in the incident. In the photograph, a person on the road could be seen, whose body had already been covered.

However, new posts in the aforementioned Facebook group provided more information about what happened, including a video of the moment when the injured were being attended to by the Integrated Medical Emergency System (SIUM).

Another user provided more details about what happened in the comments of the post, stating that she had witnessed the events as they unfolded and had provided assistance at that very moment.

The accident happened at 10 am in front of us. We all rushed to help. It is very tough to see yourself trapped without being able to escape and asking for help. With the impact, the doors closed tightly," said the internet user.

In his account, he indicated that the driver of the car he was traveling in used an iron bar to unlock the doors. "I have the image and the screams of the poor woman who was in front with the driver, and of the companions in the back when we tried to get them out and they told us that they had their legs fractured."

When the police and firefighters arrived, we withdrew, because the ambulances were also arriving and they really couldn't move without the Emergency Medical Service. It was indeed a very sad scene," he pointed out.

Although infrequent, heart attacks cause accidents on the roads in Cuba. At the end of January, a Cuban man died after allegedly suffering a heart attack while driving.

Posts on social media specified that the tragic incident occurred in the vicinity of Calvario Bridge, in Arroyo Naranjo municipality. Images shared showed the vehicle off the road and the body of a man lying on the passenger seat.

At the end of December 2023, a bus driver in Havana died while on duty on route A52 (La Palma-El Cotorro). According to the Provincial Transport Company of the Cuban capital, the deceased was Jose Villavicencio Vaillan, who was the driver of bus 5319 on route A52.

Work colleagues stated that he suffered a massive heart attack while driving, but that no passengers were injured. "Luckily for the passengers, [the heart attack] occurred at the moment when one of them asked for a break," explained an internet user.

In November 2023, a driver crashed his car into a house in Sancti Spiritus after apparently suffering a heart attack while driving.

The incident became known on Facebook, where a user posted photos of the accident, showing the damage caused by the impact of the vehicle, which knocked down columns and part of the balcony of the house.
