In a thoughtful video posted on TikTok, a Cuban in the United States opened her heart to express her frustration and sadness at the lack of consideration from some relatives in Cuba.
In the video, which has received numerous comments of solidarity, @yensywilson84 also referred to the difficulties and sacrifices that many Cuban immigrants face in their effort to offer a better future to their loved ones.
There are many people, starting with me, who work 10 and 12 hours, 13 hours, 14 hours. We have two or three jobs, and we are not seeing the money because it comes in on one hand and goes out on the other. You are sacrificing yourself and it is really hard at this time to save a little money," the young woman explained in the video, where emotions are palpable.
Yensy also expressed her regret over the lack of empathy from family members, who do not show interest in her well-being before sharing their own problems: "If I pick up the phone to call you and you see that during that call I stay completely silent, before you tell me about your problems, ask me how I am, Yensy, how are you, how are things going for you? My love, I see you looking worn out, I see you haven't done your hair, your nails look terrible, I can tell you're not doing well," she said before adding that in the United States many Cubans face serious economic difficulties, including having to sleep in their cars due to lack of work.
The Cuban woman also commented on the misconception that some on the island have about immigrants: "Nobody sees the sacrifices we make here," she lamented, feeling often misunderstood and used. "We have become like ATMs. I know the Cuban government is very bad, things in Cuba are very bad, but here... So, you spend a tremendous amount of time without going to Cuba, and when you do go, after 10 years, after 7 years, you feel pain because there are so many disappointments, because they are never satisfied with anything: 'Is this the crap that brought me after so long? They even stop talking to you."
The video has resonated with many other compatriots in the same situation: "Totally agree, that's the sad reality, we are an ATM, there is no family love anymore"; "All true, that's why I come first and the others can endure"; "I sent a watch to my dad and I have problems here and he didn't even call to console me, he called a month later to thank me for the watch"; "Almost all of us experience the same, I've sent things to cousins and they don't even write to thank you, you remind them and still no thanks, very true"; "Many people in Cuba think that just because we are on this side we are responsible for solving their problems and they don't think that we have a thousand stresses here," they commented.
The user concluded her message by making a call for consideration and empathy, reminding that, although the situation in Cuba is difficult, Cubans in the United States also face enormous challenges.
