A paramedic who on Friday assisted the family riding in a car that caught fire on the eight-lane highway in Havana, regretted not being able to rescue a girl who died in the flames.
Miguel Sarmiento, a young man who works in prehospital medical emergency services, stated on Facebook that his team was able to provide assistance on time to two babies, but another child could not be rescued.
We had the pleasure of responding to that emergency, we were able to save the lives of the babies who were at the scene. Unit 124 standing by," said in the group "Car Accidents in Cuba".
According to him, two babies who were in danger were saved, but "the other girl could not be rescued".
The accident occurred on Friday afternoon near the Cotorro bridge, where a Kia Picanto overturned several times and caught fire.
In the scene, a seven-year-old girl died and her relatives are in serious condition in the hospital.
The internet user Zenia Labrada López said that the family in the car are her neighbors.
They were a couple with their 7 or 11-month-old baby, the sister with her two children, and the father of the two girls. The little girl they couldn't rescue was 7 years old, the little brother 5, the baby's mother was 17 years old and died in the early morning. The baby is a little better, as well as the father, the other three are the most critical," detailed.
Yordanis Castallanos Preval stated that the girl who died was the daughter of a cousin of mine.
"Our town is in mourning and dismayed with pain due to the tragic situation that psychologically weighs on our chest, once the news was known, and we are attentively waiting for the evolution of the cases being treated in health facilities," he expressed.
So far, the causes of the tragic accident are not known.
