The serious accident left at least three dead, including the former baseball player Vladimiro Torres, 33 years old.
In a video posted on Instagram by the crime reporter, Niover Licea, we see the rudimentary way in which one of the injured - who was identified by an Internet user as "Alejandro" - was loaded into the emergency vehicle of the SIUM.
Several Internet users noticed that there was "nothing with oxygen" or "no one resuscitating," despite several witnesses in the images mentioning the seriousness of the injured person, whom the stretcher-bearer attempted to check for a pulse on the neck.
"First aid in Cuba does not exist," declared a commentator to allude to the lack of emergency medical supplies presumably in these cases.
"And there is an ambulance on site because the accident occurred very close to the military hospital, about a kilometer away, or perhaps not even a kilometer away from the military hospital, so there is no ambulance, stretcher, or anything," noted another commentator.
"I think that in accidents, a person should not be manipulated in this way due to the various manifestations of trauma that the body presents. Even before moving them, they need to be immobilized to prevent any type of worsening due to accidentally breaking or fracturing something. Pressure must be taken, in short, thousands of things that are what prevent complications," another internet user with knowledge of the subject commented.
Until the closing of this report, the exact number of injured has not been revealed, nor has the clinical evolution of the injured been disclosed, of whom it is only known that they were transferred to Vladimir Ilyich Lenin Hospital.
According to posts on social media, the accident occurred near the city's ring road, on the Mayarí highway.
It was the Provincial Baseball Commissioner on the island, Luis Alberto Paris Johnson, who revealed that Vladimiro Torres, former player of the Holguin Sabuesos (2008-2010) and the Santiago de Cuba Avispas (2011-2012), was among the people who lost their lives in the accident.
So far, the identities of the other deceased have not been revealed.
