An accident occurred early on Tuesday in Santa Clara after a truck and a Diana bus from the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) collided. There were no fatalities, according to a witness of the accident.
The accident occurred on Maleza Highway, in front of the Air Base Community and near Abel Santamaría International Airport.
Raciel Brito, the internet user who reported the traffic incident in the Facebook group Accidents Buses & Trucks, indicated that the truck driver - the man in the red sweater seen in one of the photos - claimed that the driver of the Diana bus invaded his lane to "overtake a cart".
Gentlemen, let's slow down, let's respect traffic rights. Yesterday, I almost witnessed another accident, involving a scooter and a trailer, and both were at fault. Caution on the road, our families are waiting for us at home," Brito concluded.
In the two images shared on social media, a police presence can be seen at the location.
In the comments section of the publication, several internet users echoed calls for caution on the roads.
Also in Santa Clara, Villa Clara, on Sunday night a car was left destroyed after being hit by the Havana-Santiago train at a railroad crossing.
In that case, despite the calamitous state in which the Hyundai car ended up, there were no victims to mourn, as several internet users claimed.
The author of the publication said that there were only material damages, and several people also confirmed that no one was injured in the crash.
In recent weeks, accidents of different nature and for multiple reasons have been reported in Cuba, many of them resulting in fatalities.
Last Saturday, two people lost their lives due to a collision between a motorcycle and a tourist rental car at kilometer 144 of the National Highway, near the municipality of Jagüey Grande, in Matanzas.
Although the population perceives an increase in traffic accidents in recent months, Cuban authorities stated that in the first semester of 2024, there were 543 fewer incidents recorded in the country compared to the same period last year.
In the official television program Round Table, Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Division of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), also reported that there were 81 fewer deaths (23%) and a reduction of 151 injuries (5%) from January to June compared to the same months in 2023.
