A young Cuban man identified as Jarol Sánchez González died as a result of a serious traffic accident that occurred last week on Avenida Boyeros in Havana.
Despite initially reporting no fatalities in the accident, which involved a Lada and a Moskvitch Aleko, CiberCuba has learned that Sanchez Gonzalez later passed away as a result of the serious traffic incident.
In the last three days, expressions of grief from relatives and friends of the deceased have multiplied on social media.
"I love you, brother. I cannot bear this departure. My heart is shattered. I have no words to express how much I love you," wrote Yoandi Sánchez on Facebook.
Aldecoa is in mourning for your departure, but God has a beautiful place for you. Fly high, my beauty. You have a whole neighborhood saddened by you. You were, are, and always will be very loved by all. This is too strong," Eneri Lanor wrote in another heartfelt message.
Several of the young man's acquaintances, who reside in Aldecoa, Havana, in one way or another have chosen to pay tribute to Jarol.
Rest in peace, my brother. You will be missed. You were one of those good friends that are few and far between. We will never forget you," wrote Henrys Gómez.
In the images that were initially released, it could be seen that the Lada overturned on the road, while the other vehicle, a red Moskvitch Aleko driven by Jarol, also suffered considerable damage.
Until the closing of this article, the clinical condition of the other driver is unknown.
In recent weeks, the number of traffic accidents in Cuba resulting in fatalities has skyrocketed.
In one of the most recent accidents, two people lost their lives on Saturday after a collision between a motorcycle and a tourist rental car at kilometer 144 of the National Highway, near the municipality of Jagüey Grande, in Matanzas.
However, although the population perceives an increase in traffic accidents, Cuban authorities stated in recent days that in the first half of 2024, 543 fewer incidents were reported in the country than in a similar period the previous year.
Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior (MININT), explained on the TV program Mesa Redonda that between January and June there were 81 fewer deaths (23%) and a reduction of 151 injured (5%) compared to the same period in 2023.
