New statements from the Cuban mercenary imprisoned in Ukraine, Frank Darío Jarrosay Manfuga, who was enlisted in the Russian invasion, were published by the media outlet Diario Las Américas.

Frank Darío was captured in the Marinka area, in the Donetsk region, at the beginning of this year.

In his statements, the young man claims not to know if Cuba was aware that Russians were recruiting Cubans to enlist them in this invasion, which has been condemned internationally.

The young man reported that he left from the "Juan Gualberto Gómez" International Airport in Varadero, Matanzas, and that he was traveling with five other people he did not know.

Upon arriving in Russia, he explained that he went through the normal process at the airport and assured that there was no one waiting for him.

"You do the regular check-in and proceed to the regular part," referring to the transit through immigration.

When questioned by the journalist if he noticed anything unusual at the Varadero Airport, the young man said no, everything was smooth during his stay at the facility.

"Everything was normal," was his description of the flight to the Eurasian nation.

He pointed out that the ticket was purchased by the people who contacted him from Russia. "That is free," he mentioned.

"That's Russia, I wouldn't even be able to tell you its name," she clarified.

When he arrived in Russia, he notes that he was surprised they sent him to war.

"That was put on the uniform, stand here, go over there," succinctly enumerates the recruitment process.

"I took my step out of necessity, not for any other reason," he stated to justify that decision.

"Did you know you were coming to a war?" was the journalist's question, and the response received was: "I didn't."

Days after the arrest of this young Cuban was announced, CiberCuba searched social media and found three Facebook profiles under the name of Frank Darío Jarrosay Manfuga, a musician affiliated with the Compañía Danza Libre, a resident of Guantánamo, and an industrial engineer by academic training.

Graduated from the University of Guantánamo and single, Jarrosay Manfuga was born on September 6, 1989, in that city in the east of Cuba. During the interrogation conducted by the Ukrainians at that time, the Cuban mercenary revealed that he had been enlisted in the Russian army since January 16.

According to what he explained, he was contacted by other Cubans who were in Russia, who told him that the Russians were looking for people "to work in construction." In return, they offered him a contract of 250,000 rubles per month (more than 2,700 dollars a month) and Russian nationality. Frank Darío accepted and ended up on the battlefield captured by the Ukrainians.

Days later, the Ukrainian government revealed it during a press conference and denounced the involvement of a high number of mercenaries from the island fighting with Russian troops.
