Renowned gynecologist and professor Orlando Rigol Ricardo passes away.

The renowned doctor had an extensive career in the field of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Cuba and Latin America.

Doctor Orlando Rigol Ricardo, recognized for his extensive career and significant contributions to Gynecology and Obstetrics in Cuba and Latin America, passed away on July 25 at the age of 90, as announced in a condolence note by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

Born on February 28, 1934, in Holguín, his life was dedicated to medicine and the training of generations of doctors.

Orlando Rigol Ricardo studied Medicine at the "Calixto García" university general hospital, where upon graduating he developed the rural medical service.

In 1963, he graduated as a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics and began working in the maternity ward of the "Calixto García" Hospital.

His outstanding work led him to be selected as a specialist teacher at the Maternidad Norte in Santiago de Cuba and he also served as a specialist in hospitals in Camagüey.

He also worked at the Alamar teaching polyclinic, where he contributed to the training of new professionals.

Dr. Rigol Ricardo was a prolific researcher and academic, with numerous scientific publications and a distinguished career in teaching at the "Eusebio Hernández" Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital.

He was the founder of the study programs for the subject and specialty of Gynecology and Obstetrics, and he directed the Cuban Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics for twelve years. He was also a member of the national group of the specialty for many years.

His influence on medicine was not limited to gynecology and obstetrics, as he was also one of the promoters of Natural and Traditional Medicine in Cuba, especially applied in his field of expertise.

Orlando Rigol Ricardo was a Full Professor and the main author of the textbook editions for the undergraduate and graduate levels of his specialty.

His legacy as a master of Latin American Gynecology and Obstetrics and as a mentor to several generations of doctors and specialists in Cuba has been recognized in recent hours by some of his former students.

"There were three books, three simple volumes 'the Rigol', we called it. Everything was there, canned and ready to be consumed. You just had to open it like a tuna that fills you up quickly and easily. Then there was the Telinde and others. Usable books for daily use like fresh water. Rest in peace, professor. Thank you for everything," wrote doctor Pablo Monert on social media.

The physical departure of Dr. Orlando Rigol Ricardo leaves a huge void in the fields of teaching, assistance, and scientific research in Cuba in the area of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
