After shining on various stages and leading a life full of successes, the prominent former Cuban player Juan Carlos Calvo passed away this Thursday at the age of 62, which represents a heavy blow for national baseball.
Through its account on the social network X, the Cuban Federation of Baseball and Softball announced the news and dedicated well-deserved words to the once versatile athlete.
"We mourn the passing of Juan Carlos Calvo, an emblematic figure of our national series, to which he devoted himself as a pillar of the teams from Pinar. He represented our country and was an example of dedication to Cuban baseball. Our condolences to family and friends," stated the entity.
Calvo was part of the national team of the island several times, thanks to his strong performances in offense and defense.
According to the statistics provided by the website Swing Completo, the player, born in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, although he developed in Santiago de Cuba, finished his career with an average of .300, after 1,137 hits in 3,788 at-bats during 13 National Series between 1979 and 1992.
The medium recalls that he drove in 540 runs, scored 469 times, achieved 282, and struck out only 503 times. Additionally, as a showcase of his versatility, one can remember his 36 bases.
Without a doubt, his farewell is bad news for those who love baseball.
