Accident in Jatibonico causes significant damage to a private vehicle.

The causes of the incident are unknown, as it has not been reported by the authorities or the official Cuban media.

An accident that occurred on the night of this Sunday in the municipality of Jatibonico, Sancti Spíritus, caused significant damage to a private car that ended up crashed against a retaining wall on the Central Highway of Cuba.

"Driver asleep between Jatibonico and El Majá. I don't know more details," reported a user from the Facebook group 'Accidents Buses & Trucks,' who shared nighttime images of the scene.

The physical condition of those involved in the incident is unknown, as well as their number, the causes, or the exact location where the incident occurred. Due to similarities with images from previous accidents, the event may have taken place at kilometer 415 of the Carretera Central.

The vehicle, a small utility with a private license plate, was left on the road with considerable damage to its body and windshield.

Danger zone

In the area near Jatibonico, several fatal accidents have been reported. At the end of November 2023, five people were injured, including a minor with serious injuries, when a jeep traveling in the opposite direction collided with a Yutong bus from Ómnibus Nacionales.

The incident took place at the entrance of the municipality of Jatibonico, in the La Playita area, according to reports on social media. Journalist Maribel Hernández from Radio Jatibonico specified that the incident occurred "in the section between the Community of El Majá and Jatibonico, along the Central Highway."

At the end of October 2021, a mass accident that occurred in the same municipality of Sancti Spíritus resulted in a preliminary toll of four dead and five injured.

The accident occurred around 6:20 am (local time) when a truck went off the road at kilometer 426 of the Central Highway, in the rural town of El Perico, located on the border with the province of Ciego de Ávila.

At the end of May 2021, a fatal traffic accident occurred at kilometer 415 of the Central Highway when a Yutong bus and a car collided, resulting in a preliminary toll of two dead and three injured.

The incident was recorded at approximately 6:40 a.m. in the El Cinco area, very close to the so-called Camino de El Meso, which leads to the Lebrije dam, specified the provincial director of Transport, José Lorenzo García, in statements to the official newspaper Escambray.

The Yutong bus was traveling from Havana to eastern Cuba when it collided with a private car, popularly known as an almendrón. The two deceased and the three injured individuals were traveling in the car.

In 2019, two accidents were reported with barely a month apart. In April of that year, a Yutong bus coming from Santiago de Cuba collided with a truck belonging to the state sugar company, Azumat, at kilometer 423 of the Central Highway in Los Pinos. The incident resulted in a tragic toll of one dead and eight injured.

A month earlier, a woman died and four other people were injured in an accident between a car and a truck near the recreational center La Playita and the settlement El Cinco, about five kilometers from Jatibonico.

In December 2018, a Yutong bus heading to Baracoa collided head-on with a trailer truck loaded with sugarcane, resulting in one fatality and 16 injuries, also near Jatibonico.

Two months earlier, another accident resulted in four deaths and a girl in serious condition in the mentioned municipality, where a passenger car, whose driver died on the spot, collided with a truck.
