A young man just 18 years old, who had been reported missing since this Sunday in the municipality of San Luis, in Santiago de Cuba, was found dead in the last hours.

The victim, identified as Raciel Mateo Vega, according to the testimony of neighbors cited by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, went out to the river and never returned home.

The body was found lifeless in the river, with head injuries.

The corpse was transferred to the municipal hospital to determine the cause of death.

The cited source indicated that neighbors and some relatives do not rule out the possibility that he may have been murdered, something that forensic experts will need to confirm or deny.

The death of the young man has been met with sorrow by those who knew him, as they claim he was helpful and very kind to the elders in his community, with whom he often engaged in conversation.

They also highlight that he was a very determined young man who always sold candies to help his mom.

In the comments section, hundreds of internet users lamented the high number of young Cubans who have lost their lives in Cuba in recent years.

Very shortly before his disappearance, Raciel Mateo Vega made two very optimistic posts on Facebook that now take on a painful meaning.

"Don't be afraid to shine. You are a star in your own story. There are no limits to what you can achieve when you dress with confidence and strive for your dreams," she wrote first.

"Believing in yourself when no one else does, that's what makes you strong," can be read in the second post.
