Currencies in Cuba: The euro falls and the dollar holds firm

The dollar has not experienced any new changes in its average selling price for the moment.

At dawn on this Monday, the average sale of the euro in Cuba has experienced a drop of five pesos compared to its value on the previous day. The European currency falls from 335 to 330 CUP.

The dollar and the freely convertible currency (MLC), for their part, remain unchanged for the moment and maintain their values from Sunday: the US dollar at 320 CUP, and at a good distance, the freely convertible currency (MLC) remains at 280 CUP, a value it has held for several days.

Last week, an article published in Granma threatened Cuban citizens with up to five years in prison for turning to the informal market for the buying and selling of foreign currencies and emphasized that these street-level operations "affect the country's economic system."

"These actions are punishable by imprisonment of two to five years, or a fine of five hundred to one thousand units, or both," pointed out the official source, which also indicated that any transaction involving the sale, transfer, transmission, or acquisition of foreign currency "is illegal and constitutes a crime."
