The Attorney General's Office of the State of Guanajuato, in Mexico, arrested the alleged perpetrator of the shooting that occurred in July in front of the hotel where the Cuban U-20 soccer team was staying, which participated in the Concacaf pre-world cup.

The attack resulted in the death of one police officer and left another injured. It took place while officers from the General Directorate of Traffic and Road Police were conducting surveillance before transporting the athletes to the stadium.

The main aggressor was identified as Alejandro "N". The police have linked him to a criminal process for homicide against public servants and attempted homicide, while operations continue to capture the other individuals involved in the attack.

On July 24, a group of armed assailants opened fire on officers in front of the Casa Inn Celaya Veleros Hotel. They shot from several locations and then fled on motorcycles.

Despite the agents' attempts to repel the aggression, both were seriously injured. One of them, identified as Franco, died after being taken to the hospital.

The incident adds to the rising wave of violence in Celaya, one of the most dangerous municipalities for security forces in Guanajuato.

This year, 18 police officers have been murdered in the city, contributing to a total of 40 fallen officers statewide.

The Cuban football team secured one of the four available spots for the FIFA U-20 Championship 2025 in Chile on August 1, after defeating Honduras in a penalty shootout during the quarterfinals of the Concacaf tournament.
