The alleged murderer of Usiel Quesada Florat, the 23-year-old who died early Friday morning after being stabbed in the back, has been identified as Dairon Montero Basulto, according to the independent media outlet La Hora de Cuba.

Dairon, about 20 years old, was on a prison pass after being convicted of the murder of a bicyclist in Camagüey, according to the aforementioned source.

So far, the whereabouts of the alleged murderer are unknown, who remains a fugitive from justice.

The crime

Usiel Quesada - who lived in the Salomé neighborhood - was with a friend socializing in a recreational area known as the Jayamá Tent, in front of the Hotel Camagüey, when he was attacked from behind with a knife. La Hora de Cuba had previously reported this, specifying that the alleged murderer resides in the San Antonio neighborhood, also in Camagüey.

The assaulted young man, who according to his girlfriend was unarmed, lost his life on the same day as his anniversary with his partner Thalía Cárdenas, who, completely devastated, has lamented that he was left alone.

"Where were those who claimed to be his friends? Where were those who went out with him, who left my white boy all alone and got him killed?" she questioned desperately in a social media post.

"Yes, this post should be congratulating you on our anniversary and not your farewell. What an anniversary gift," the girlfriend added in a Facebook post in which she stated that her life had been shattered because he had promised her children, and she only wanted to have them with him.

Cuba has become an unsafe country for more than two years now. Violent acts happen daily, and unlike in other times, the regime can no longer silence the families mourning the loss of a loved one because there are more of them, and they no longer remain silent.

At least 18 people died in Cuba in July as a result of the growing wave of violence affecting the Island, according to figures from the Cuban Observatory of Conflicts (OCC).
