Cuban government announces tour through the streets of Havana by the sports delegation to the Paris Olympics.

At the moment, the Cuban delegation holds the 27th place in the medal table.

Sports authorities announced that the Cuban delegation to the Paris Olympics will arrive on the night of Monday, August 12, at José Martí International Airport, from where they will follow a route to La Piragua, on the Havana waterfront.

The Piragua will be the "venue for the welcome event," and at the same time "a tribute" to the 98th anniversary of the birth of Fidel Castro, according to the official report.

The route will begin at Terminal No. 1 of José Martí Airport, passing through Boyeros, the Rotunda of the Sports City, Calle 26, Calle 23, until reaching the Malecón, with the final destination at La Piragua.

This type of event, which links sports with the figure of Fidel Castro, is another example of the attempt to perpetuate the deceased dictator in all areas of Cuban life.

Instead of focusing exclusively on sports achievements, the event is framed within the official strategy of keeping the figure of Fidel Castro alive at all costs.

The public invitation to attend reflects the social pressure to participate in events of this kind, which mix sport and politics in a country where expressions of support for the government are almost mandatory.

Such reality diverts attention from the true challenges facing Cuban sports: the lack of resources, the brain drain, and the politicization of sports institutions.
