Cuban Milaimy Marín won a bronze medal this Sunday in the 76-kilogram category of women's freestyle wrestling at the Paris Olympic Games after defeating Aiperi Medet from Kyrgyzstan by 6-0.
Although Marín should have gone to the repechage, it was not necessary after the injury of the Romanian Catalina Axente was confirmed today, who would have been her opponent in the repechage.
Marín made her debut this Saturday in the tournament with a 7-1 victory over the Bulgarian Yuliana Yaneva and then lost 3-4 to the American Kennedy Alexis Blades.
It was precisely Kennedy who injured Axente after throwing her headfirst into the mat and leaving her immobilized, an action that caused a severe neck injury to the pile, which was taken out on a stretcher.
A few hours before the official closing of the medal tally in Paris, Cuba holds the 29th place with a total of nine medals: two gold, one silver, and six bronze.
