In the city of Miami, violent crimes have decreased, reports a preliminary report from the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) in the United States, which includes numbers from the first six months of the current year.

Miami, along with Washington DC, has marked significant reductions, of up to 29% in violent crimes, although they note that homicides did increase.

The report, conducted by the Department of Justice, shows that in the first six months of the year, violent crimes decreased by 6% in 69 cities across the country, which include homicides, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults.

They say this represents a decrease compared to the same period last year.

Among the cities where violent crimes have decreased the most are Columbus (Ohio), with a 41% reduction, and Omaha (Nebraska), with a 30% reduction. They are followed by Miami and Washington DC, according to the report cited by the Efe agency.

For its part, homicides have decreased more rapidly in Boston by 78%, and in Philadelphia, by 42%, according to the statistics from the MCCA, which do not include the city of New York.

The U.S. Attorney General, Merrick Garland, celebrated these numbers as part of a strategy of the Department he leads.

"But our message remains clear: we will not rest until all people and all communities are safe from violent crimes," the official stated.

The campaign office of Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris referred to this report, highlighting "historical declines" in crime in the country, with a homicide rate that is "on track to experience the largest recorded decrease to date," says Efe.

While the campaign of former President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly blamed the rise in crime on the Biden administration, stated that "violent crimes are still very high compared to 2019 under President Trump."
