Jorge, a 70-year-old Cuban who lives on the streets of Havana, has revealed his precarious situation in an interview with the popular TikTok profile Tito Libertad (@titolibertad).
In the video, Jorge confessed that his life is reduced to surviving on what he finds in the trash, as he does not receive any kind of food assistance.
Without any income and depending on the charity of passersby, Jorge lives without a roof over his head or dignified conditions.
His testimony reflects the harsh reality of many Cubans who face extreme difficulties in a country where the government does not guarantee them the most basic needs for daily survival. The situation is becoming increasingly difficult in the country, as pensions for the elderly do not even cover the cost of a bag of powdered milk.
Additionally, Jorge reported that the police prevent him from being in the more touristy areas of Old Havana, as his presence is not considered a good image for the country. This situation forces him to remain in less visible areas, further worsening his isolation and precariousness.
The video has generated a strong reaction on social media, highlighting the urgent need to address the issue of homelessness in Cuba.
In the comments on the post, a user expressed: "He is 70 years old, was born, and will die waiting for the economic growth promised by socialism that never comes. His life has passed, and he never got to know the 'Cuba, world power' that they promised him."
