A young lineman from the Electric Company of Havana died electrocuted on Tuesday night while doing work on a pole in Punta Brava, La Lisa.

The incident occurred on 28th street, between 251 and 253. A local resident, a witness to what happened, captured images showing the young man, identified as Pedrito, hanging unconscious among the high-voltage wires.

The emergency broke out after the community reported a malfunction in a transformer around 2 PM. However, the electricity company workers did not arrive until 10 PM.

"The boy did a good job, but in the end, when he was trying to cross over the cables to get down, he lost consciousness and fell onto them," reported a witness.

The young man was rescued by firefighters and taken to a polyclinic, but died shortly after due to the severity of his injuries.

The neighbors who witnessed the scene criticized the lack of adequate protection for the worker. "This is what happens when you work in Cuba without the minimum safety conditions," they commented in statements to Cubanet.

The witnesses claim that there was a significant delay in medical assistance. The lineman was hanging from the pole for nearly half an hour before being brought down by the firefighters. The ambulance took almost an hour to arrive because the driver allegedly had to attend to another case in Alamar first.

This is not the first case of a fatal accident at the Electric Company of Havana. Reports have been made regarding poor nutrition for workers, a lack of safety materials, and a shortage of essential resources that, if not available, can put their lives at risk.

Last March, another lineman, Leonel Borroso Machín, died after falling from a pole while working on the restoration of electricity service in Boyeros, impacted by severe storms.
