Regrettable loss in Cuban basketball: the renowned coach Alejandro Castañeira passes away.

The technical director left an indelible mark with his titles in the Pan American and Central American and Caribbean Games.

The Cuban Basketball Federation announced with sadness the passing of renowned coach Alejandro Castañeira, who died on Tuesday due to a prolonged illness.

Castañeira, who dedicated her life to the discipline of basketball, left an indelible mark with her numerous titles in the Pan American and Central American and Caribbean Games.

His career spanned both national and international arenas, standing out for his ability to elevate the profile of Cuban basketball, according to the digital site JIT.

From 1972 to 1982, she directed the women's national team, and later, between 1991 and 1995, she coached the men's team.

His experience also extended to the Dominican Republic in 1996, where he worked with the under-22 team and became an advisor to the Basketball Federation of that country until 1997.

Castañeira continued his career abroad, managing the Regata club in Lima, Peru, from 1998 to 2000, and shared his experience with the Huracanes in 2011.
