They set another dumpster on fire in Santiago de Cuba.

Residents of the Military District "Las Flores" in the "El Caney" Council of Santiago de Cuba allegedly set fire to a trash dump in protest against the garbage crisis in that city.

Residents of that province have repeatedly expressed to the Comunales management and other government entities their complaints about the accumulation of garbage in the area, without any solution to the problem, reported local journalist Yosmany Mayeta on Facebook.

"They were informed of everything on time," a man can be heard saying in a video of the burning of one of these depots posted by Mayeta.

According to their report, the fire was very close to the neighboring homes, although no damage to the residential structures was reported.

The firefighters arrived at the scene quickly and were able to extinguish the flames before they spread.

Due to the lack of solutions from the government and Community Services, some residents have opted to set fire to the landfills: "This is the only way the firefighters arrive, and then they clean up the garbage dumps," comment the affected individuals.

Residents warn that the trash piles are growing daily and that the company responsible for their management seems to ignore the complaints of the citizens, who have decided to take action on the matter.

Two days ago, residents in Santiago de Cuba also reported burning trash containers as a form of protest.

The garbage crisis not only affects Santiago but also other Cuban cities. Recently, a landfill fire was reported in the Mantilla neighborhood of Havana.

A recent study shows that the government stops collecting the equivalent of three Olympic swimming pools of garbage every day in Havana, which translates into an environment conducive to the proliferation of diseases.

On July 24, it was reported that the Provincial Directorate of Communal Services is facing a crisis in equipment availability, which further exacerbates the situation.

In this context, the government stated that it is seeking foreign investment to mitigate the waste management crisis, although so far no effective solutions have been realized, while citizens' complaints about this issue continue to accumulate.
