"Don't try to steal from a Cuban": Woman in Houston fights with two thieves and recovers her backpack

The young woman kept her passports in her backpack and ran to retrieve her backpack.

Determination and a little caffeine turned out to be great allies for a young Cuban in Houston, who managed to recover her stolen backpack after a chase and a fight in the middle of the street with two thieves.

The incident occurred at 10 a.m. in a café in the Woodland Heights area that the young woman frequents for breakfast and to work virtually.

The surveillance images captured the moment when the victim, identified as Claudia, was working on her computer and having a coffee outside of Uncle Bean's Coffee, located in the 3000 block of Houston Avenue.

At one moment, two other women walked by, and one of them quickly grabbed the backpack, which was resting on a chair, where the young woman had her American and Cuban passports.

However, the thieves did not expect that the Cuban was very quick and reacted immediately.

"If it had been softer, maybe I wouldn't have noticed, but it was very harsh. That startled me, and that's when I reacted and started to run," the woman explained in statements to ABC Houston.

The incident, captured by security cameras, shows how the victim chased the suspects, managed to knock down the one carrying her backpack, and ultimately recovered her belongings in the middle of the street.

Claudia said that she had visited the café almost every day for the last month and a half, and that she considered the area a safe place.

"Nothing had ever happened. That's why it surprised me so much," he added.

After the incident, he decided to take additional precautions and bought a hook to secure his backpack while he works.

"The next time, if they try to grab the backpack, they will take the table with them," she said with a laugh.

Or better, "never try to steal from a Cuban woman," concluded the followers of the news channel on social media.

The suspects managed to escape, and the authorities in Houston are asking anyone who recognizes them in the video to notify the Houston Police Department.
