They identify the author of the shooting in which the opposition figure Manuel Milanés would have been injured.

The suspect was involved in an episode of domestic violence in which Milanés intervened, resulting in him being shot in the shoulder.

A man identified as Hilberto Callejas was arrested this Thursday in Collier County for having discharged a weapon during a domestic dispute against a witness, in a case where the apparent victim was the Cuban influencer and opposition figure Manuel Milanés.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk announced the arrest of Callejas, 26 years old and a resident of Hendry County, in connection with a shooting that occurred in the morning in the Ave Maria community, where the opposition figure was shot at the same time.

He clarified that it was a serious incident of domestic violence that escalated to tragic levels when Callejas shot a witness who tried to intervene.

The altercation occurred just before 9 a.m. in the Ave Maria community, where sheriff's office agents were deployed after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident.

Callejas rammed his vehicle into another person's car with whom he was arguing and then got out of his car, approached the crashed vehicle, and broke the glass of a window with a firearm.

However, a witness witnessed the events and confronted Callejas, who shot him in the shoulder and then fled the scene, initiating a police chase.

"The detectives identified Callejas' vehicle while he was leaving Ave Maria. The agents chased Callejas until he abandoned his vehicle at the intersection of 60th Avenue Northeast and Everglades Boulevard," Rambosk explained.

After leaving his vehicle, Callejas ran away towards the nearby woods, the sheriff commented.

Callejas faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated robbery, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and child abuse, among others.

Milanés was apparently shot in this incident and airlifted to the hospital. "The surgical procedure was a success," reported fellow Cuban opposition member Wilfredo Beyra, who has continued to provide updates on the case, which is still under investigation.
