Accidents involving cyclists occur frequently in Cuba. The transportation crisis forces many to travel by this means, which becomes a risk factor due to the poor condition of the roads, signage, and the lack of safe pathways for cyclists.

In early July, a woman was reported in serious condition following a dramatic accident involving a tourist vehicle in the Granma province, according to reports on social media.

The incident occurred on a stretch of the Jiguaní-Baire road, when a passenger car attempted to overtake a truck and collided with a bicycle on which a woman was riding.

In March, the driver of a car who was allegedly driving in the opposite direction on a street in Vedado, Havana, collided with a young cyclist who suffered serious injuries that required his transfer by ambulance to a hospital.

The events took place at the intersection of 21st and 4th Street when a Hyundai car – which, according to witnesses, was driving in the wrong direction on 21st Street – collided with the young man who was riding a bicycle.

In February, an accident occurred on the central Camilo Cienfuegos avenue in the city of Las Tunas, leaving a woman injured after a collision between a bicycle and a motorcycle due to reasons that could not be specified.
