A new poll leading up to the presidential elections in the United States next Tuesday, November 5, shows a tie between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

The poll, released on Wednesday, was conducted by the firm Inquire, at the request of Republican Commissioner Kevin Cabrera, clarified the EFE agency while reporting on the results.

On this occasion, the result shows that both candidates have a 47% voting intention in the most populous county in Florida, Miami-Dade, a traditional stronghold of the Democratic Party.

The sample of this survey was conducted among 500 people from August 22 to 25, dates close to the end of the Democratic Convention in Chicago, and had a margin of error of 4.5%.

Likewise, the study accounts for 6% of undecided voters.

Although not conclusive, the poll may reveal some concerns for the Democrats, as they have not lost this district since 1988. However, in 2022, the current governor of Florida, Republican Ron DeSantis, won this county in his re-election campaign.

“Miami-Dade, which was once a Democratic stronghold, is no longer a guaranteed victory,” Kevin Cabrera told the Miami Herald, also asserting that the “community is adopting conservative values and rejecting the failed policies of Biden-Harris that are ruining our nation.”

Current Vice President Harris is perceived in the county with a more favorable view (49%) than unfavorable (45%). Trump is not far off in the numbers with 48% to 46%.

The findings of the study released today differ from another one published earlier this month by Democratic strategist Christian Ulvert, which showed a 14-point percentage difference in favor of Harris (54% to 40%) in Miami-Dade.

The survey, conducted in early August by MDW Communications, a well-known Democratic consultant based in Plantation, Florida, reflected a significant shift in the local political landscape following Joe Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race, according to the Miami Herald.

The truth is that a week after Harris officially accepted the presidential nomination from the Democratic Party during the national convention held at the United Center in Chicago, the polls do not show a clear winner for November 5. However, so far the website FiveThirtyEight, which aggregates national polls, indicates that Harris is leading Trump by 3.4 percentage points.

The state of Florida has established itself as a conservative stronghold, with over a million more registered voters identifying as Republicans than as Democrats.

According to data revealed by state election supervisors, there are currently 5.3 million active voters registered with the Republican Party, compared to 4.3 million registered as Democrats. In addition, around 3.9 million voters do not identify with any political party or are affiliated with minor parties.

In 2020, Democrats still held an advantage of approximately 97,000 registered voters over Republicans.
