A Cuban citizen was arrested in the city of Miami, Florida, after being accused of stealing money on several occasions from an elderly woman whom the suspect's friend was taking care of.

Local authorities identified Yailet Rodríguez as the alleged responsible party, who was captured by security cameras inside the victim's residence, according to the channel AmericaTeVe.

The incident occurred in the southwest of Miami-Dade, where the elderly woman lived under the care of an assistant. According to the police report, Rodríguez, who frequently visited the home due to his relationship with the caregiver, took advantage of his visits to steal cash from the residence.

The surveillance cameras recorded at least three incidents in which the accused took money. And the caregiver, who was unaware of her friend's behavior, was alerted by the victim's son after reviewing the recordings.

Immediately, they contacted the authorities to apprehend Rodríguez in an area near his home, on 70th Avenue and 21st Street in southwest Miami. He now faces charges of theft, in addition to a court process with bail set at $5,000.

In Florida, robbery against an elderly person is considered a felony, with penalties that can include up to five years in prison depending on the severity of the case.
