A truck loaded with goods fell into a large pothole, blocking a street in Santiago de Cuba

The residents of the El Caney community in Santiago de Cuba held the Water Company responsible for the large hole in the road.

A truck loaded with flour and sugar fell into a large pothole on the road to Country Club in El Caney, blocking the route for several hours.

Journalist Yosmany Mayeta reported on Facebook this Thursday that the incident took place in front of the Oxygen Factory, according to a witness who recorded the moment.

The spokesperson noted that the occupants of the truck had to unload all the merchandise to transfer it to another vehicle, which delayed the operation until 10 PM.

"The truck was blocking the street. If there had been an emergency at a hospital, I don’t know what would have happened," the witness remarked.

The Country Club Road is a key route that connects with important state entities, such as the EIDE Captain Orestes Acosta, the Industrial Gases Factory, the Canning Factory, and the José Maceo School of the FAR, Mayeta emphasized.

Additionally, he held the "Aguas Santiago" Water and Sewer Company responsible for causing the huge hole during the repair of a pipeline.

However, the company left the pothole unrepaired, which has resulted in several vehicles falling into it.

"That hole is dangerous and could cause a serious accident, especially when the street fills with water and drivers who are unfamiliar with it might fall in," he warned.

The poor condition of the roads in Cuba often leads to accidents, many of which result in tragic consequences.

Last August, the driver of a truck in the city of Pinar del Río likely experienced the biggest disappointment of the day when a massive pothole "swallowed" the front left wheel of his vehicle.

The incident occurred in the midst of a downpour, which likely caused the pothole to fill with water, preventing the driver from realizing the true size of the "little pothole."

However, potholes not only pose a risk to vehicles but also to pedestrians.

Residents of the Guanabacoa municipality in Havana reported the presence of a large pothole on Concha Street.
