Diplomatic car and military vehicle collide on Fifth Avenue in Miramar.

The incident occurred at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 84th Street when the diplomatic car allegedly ran a red light and collided with a Geely belonging to the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

A serious accident occurred on the night of this Friday in Havana, when a supposed diplomatic car collided with a military vehicle on Fifth Avenue in Miramar, leaving two people severely injured.

The incident took place at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 84th Street. Reports on social media indicate that the diplomatic car did not respect a red traffic light and collided with a Geely belonging to the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).

At the time of writing this note, neither the authorities of the capital nor the state-run media are reporting on an incident that allegedly involves the diplomatic corps accredited in Havana and officials of the Cuban army.

"Accident at 5th and 84, around 9 PM. So far, no human losses are reported, but there are two people in serious condition," indicated a Facebook user in the group 'Accidents Buses & Trucks'.

Videos shared on social media show the moments immediately following the collision, where police and firefighters can be seen removing the occupants of the Geely, apparently seriously injured.

The diplomatic car, a white SUV, was left on the sidewalk of Fifth Avenue after the impact. In the images, two of the occupants of the Geely can be seen lying in the street awaiting help.

“The diplomat was coming down 5th Avenue and the one from the FAR was on 84th. The diplomat ran the red light. This happened at the same corner of 5th and 84... In the video, they were still inside. People who stopped were pulling them out. They say there are no fatalities at the scene, but there are two very critical people so far. A few minutes later, firefighters and police arrived at the scene,” indicated the user identified on Facebook as Edmundo Dantés Junior.

From the images, everything seems to indicate that the diplomatic vehicle struck the car attributed to the Cuban armed forces from the side. The events took place near the military club known as Casa Central de las FAR, a recreational site for regime officials, located on Avenida 3ra between 88 and 94, in the Playa municipality.

Interestingly, the accident echoes the incident that occurred at the end of June in El Vedado, Havana, when two cars (one diplomatic and the other military) collided and were severely damaged by the impact.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Calzada Avenue and 4th Street, near the Marti Studies Center. Although there was no official information about the event, it was reported on social media that the vehicles were being driven by a Cuban military officer and a person in the service of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba.

Despite being one of the best-paved and well-lit avenues in the Cuban capital - a daily route for foreign diplomats and regime leaders - Fifth Avenue in Miramar is a frequent scene of accidents.

In mid-January, a multiple accident occurred on this avenue involving at least three vehicles, according to reports on social media. The events took place at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 16th Street, right in front of the Venezuelan Embassy in Cuba, located in the exclusive neighborhood of Miramar.

In October 2023, a car ended up overturned at the exit of the Fifth Avenue Tunnel, with no injuries reported, only material damage to the vehicle. Apparently, the incident was caused by the excessive speed of the driver involved.
