A medium-sized fire occurred on the night of Saturday, September 14, at the Capri Hotel in the capital, specifically in the kitchen of the La Florentina restaurant, located on the upper floors of the building.
The fire started around 9:15 PM, caused by an electrical short in the kitchen facilities.
The Government of Havana confirmed the information about the incident. They indicated that the quick action of the Fire Command of the Plaza de la Revolución Municipality allowed the flames to be controlled in just one hour.
Despite this, two hotel workers inhaled smoke and were immediately transferred to Calixto García Hospital, where they received medical attention and were discharged later that same night.
The hotel management, as a precautionary measure, decided to temporarily move guests to the nearby Hotel Victoria while fire control efforts and safety condition verifications were taking place.
Tourism sector executives reported that the NH Capri Hotel has resumed normal operations and is already offering its services as usual this Sunday.
The authorities will continue investigating the causes of the power outage that led to the incident to prevent similar future occurrences.
The Hotel Capri is one of the most well-known tourist establishments in Havana. It has a long tradition of service. It is located at the intersection of 21st Street and N Street, in El Vedado.
