A house in the Historic Center of Trinidad, in Sancti Spíritus, caught fire this Sunday. Firefighters had to assist some residents.
A user, who preferred to remain anonymous, sent CiberCuba a video with scenes from the moment a person was rescued in the incident. The woman emerged crying, very anxious due to the unpleasant moments she experienced.
A witness indicated that the fire occurred on Piro Guinart street (boca) between Real and Cristo, very close to the National Museum of the Fight Against Bandits. The cause of the fire is not yet known. There are no reports of loss of human life, but there are material losses.
In the recording, the voice of one of the neighbors can be heard expressing astonishment at how young the Cuban firefighters were who assisted the victims in the oldest area of Trinidad.
They are mostly teenagers who are undergoing Military Service. They are between 17 and 21 years old and appeared inexperienced upon arriving at the scene of the fire. Some neighbors claim that it took them about 45 minutes to arrive, despite the fact that there is a fire station very close to the site of the incident.
However, these firefighters working together managed to rescue a person from the flames. The elderly woman emerged with part of her hair burned but safe and sound. She was able to reunite with her relatives and neighbors.
Since 2022, there has been a campaign against Military Service in Cuba, which gained strength on social media when several recruits died while helping to extinguish the fire at the Supertankers Base in Matanzas.
The campaign uses the hashtag #NoToMandatoryMilitaryService. Cuban internet users demand that the regime repeal the law that requires male teenagers to register for military service when they turn 16.
