Man stabs and hits a stray dog in Havana.

Cuban activists and animal rights advocates mobilized to treat the dog's wounds and condemned the barbarity committed.

A man stabbed and beat a stray dog in Havana, causing serious injuries from which she managed to recover thanks to the intervention of a neighbor and the assistance provided by activists and animal lovers who became aware of the case.

The events occurred this Saturday when the user identified on Facebook as Marta Alejandra Rivero Ramírez found the badly injured puppy and decided to help her. It was then that the good Samaritan asked for help through her networks to cover the costs of the surgery, which were too high for her budget.

"I urgently need help for this stray dog, who is always in the building because I feed her. Today a murderer stabbed her for no reason and broke a vertebra. She is unable to move her back legs. I gave her first aid, but they are asking for 25,000 pesos for the surgery. I can't afford it. Please share to see if any dog charities can help us. I have her at my house. Help me," said Rivero Ramírez in his post.

Immediately, activists and caring individuals reached out to the woman to help with the care and treatment needed to heal the dog.

"Thank God the little dog didn't die. I already gave her some puree and pain relief. She is very sore," reported Rivero Ramírez on his social media after providing first aid to the animal. The little dog was taken to a veterinary center, judging by a video shared by Rivero Ramírez. It is unknown if the little dog ultimately required surgery for her wounds, as well as the extent of the injuries caused by the brutality of the man who attacked her.

This Sunday, Rivero Ramírez shared images of the puppy again, visibly recovered from her injuries but still scared and stressed by the violent experience she endured.

"Look at the little dog eating her food. Hidden under the bed. She has nightmares. Yesterday she lifted her head and barked, and today, look, she's eating by herself. I didn't have to give it to her. Thanks to everyone for their help. She pees and poops, and now she got a little sick. Grateful. Blessings," said the animal's savior.

The activist and social worker Yankiel Fernández, coordinator of the Humanitarian Project Aliento de Vida, echoed the good news on his social media and thanked the noble gesture of the woman who helped the puppy.

“It’s better. This morning they gave him a puree and he is sedated. He is improving because the best thing is that he hasn’t passed away. Thanks to the good people who have contacted the lady who is taking care of him,” said the young activist.

Animal welfare activism has gained momentum in recent years, thanks to people's awareness and the use of social media to share reports and conduct fundraising campaigns to support the work of Cuban animal rights activists.

In recent days, a horse was seriously injured by machete blows in Sancti Spíritus, which triggered the swift mobilization of animal rights activists who rushed to save the life of the equine.

The ARCA Sancti Spíritus Foundation reported on Facebook that the animal was attacked with machetes in the Olivos 3 neighborhood, emphasizing the need for all animal activists to come together to save the life of the horse, who was seriously injured.

In a second post, the organization pointed out that the incident occurred during a fight, in which both the horse and its owner were injured.

"Quickly, our volunteers Yania, Disley, and Yamirna went to the location and provided first aid while waiting for veterinary assistance; they themselves managed to establish an IV and administered fluids, as the horse had lost a lot of blood," ARCA stated.

In addition, they reported that the deep wounds affected major arteries and caused significant blood loss, which was controlled thanks to the rapid intervention of several people from the health sector.

At the end of August, a puppy tied to a utility pole and abandoned in the full sun in Guanabacoa, Havana, was rescued by a woman who found it dehydrated and nearly strangled with a nylon rope.

A person named Naiviv D'Sifonte reported on Facebook that she discovered the animal early in the morning, near the Yuri Gómez dental clinic. After asking the neighbors about the dog and its owner, D'Sifonte decided to take it to her home until she heard news of its owner.

In mid-August, animal protector Yenney Caballero reported a new case of animal abuse in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque, where horses used to pull carts were forced to remain under the sun, loaded with heavy burdens, while their owners rested in the shade.
