Former U.S. President and Republican candidate for the upcoming November elections Donald Trump emerged unscathed from a shooting that took place at his golf club in Florida this Sunday.
"President Trump is safe after shots were fired in his vicinity. There are no further details at the moment," said Steven Cheung, communications director for Trump's campaign, in a brief message distributed to the press.
According to a report by the New York Post citing police sources, it would be an incident in which Secret Service agents opened fire on a man who was seen with what could have been a weapon while the former president was at the Trump International Golf Course.
The information does not specify whether the man was on the golf course or in the vicinity of the location.
He was later stopped on the I-95 highway by local police.
However, the son of the former president, Donald Trump Junior, provided some details through a message posted on X, in which he mentioned that the shots occurred at the Trump International golf club, located in West Palm Beach, Florida, about five miles inland from Mar-a-Lago, Trump's official residence.
It also confirmed that "a suspect has been detained" in connection with this incident.
The news becomes relevant when just over two months ago, on July 13, the former president was the victim of an attack in which he was injured by gunfire at a campaign event in Pennsylvania.
The FBI identified the attacker as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20 years old, a resident of Bethel Park.
