Cuba and Florida on alert: Potential tropical cyclone may cause severe flooding

This cyclone can become a powerful hurricane, with storm surge and coastal flooding. Both countries are issuing warnings to the population and beginning preparations to prevent disasters.

The National Hurricane Center in the United States (NHC) has issued important warnings about Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, which is expected to impact areas of the western Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico in the coming days.

The system could reach major hurricane status and poses a serious risk to Cuba and the Florida coast as it intensifies in the coming hours. If the weather forecasts are confirmed, it will be called Hurricane Helene.

Risk for the western part of Cuba

It is expected that the disturbance will intensify as it moves toward the northwest Caribbean Sea, with the possibility of reaching hurricane strength this Wednesday.

The west of Cuba, including areas like Pinar del Río and Artemisa, could experience tropical storm conditions, with gusty winds and intense rainfall.

The northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula is also under alert, as hurricane conditions could occur in the coming hours.

Floods and landslides in Cuba

The impact of the cyclone will not be limited to strong winds. The intense rains associated with this system could cause considerable flooding and landslides in western Cuba.

Cuban authorities have begun to prepare for possible evacuations due to the risk faced by mountainous areas from torrential rains.

Rainfall can cause flash flooding in coastal and urban areas in parts of Florida, the southeastern United States, the Southern Appalachians, and the Tennessee Valley between Wednesday and Friday, with potential moderate river flooding.

Increasing danger for the Gulf Coast of Florida

According to the report issued at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine could significantly intensify before making landfall on the northeast coast of the Gulf of Mexico this Thursday.

The Florida Panhandle and the west coast of the state are at risk of experiencing storm surges that could put lives in danger, along with hurricane-force winds that could cause structural damage.

Local authorities have issued hurricane and storm surge warnings, urging residents of 41 counties in Florida to prepare their emergency plans and follow evacuation instructions if necessary.

Preparation measures to face the possible hurricane

Hurricane and storm surge warnings are now in effect. Authorities recommend that residents in at-risk areas secure their properties, stock up on essential supplies, and stay informed through official channels.

It is important to have an emergency plan and follow the recommendations of the civil protection teams.

The coming hours will be crucial to determine the trajectory and intensity of the system, so constant monitoring will be maintained.
