Strong winds and possible tornado strike Cape Coral; alert issued in southwest Florida.

The first effects of Hurricane Helene are already being felt in Florida, with strong winds and rain that have begun to batter the region.

The southeast of Cape Coral, Florida, was hit this Thursday by strong winds, potentially associated with a tornado, due to the outer bands of Hurricane Helene, which continues to batter the region.

The meteorologist Matt Devitt reported on Facebook that a tornado warning has been issued for all of southwest Florida.

In the video shared by the specialist, the damage caused by the strong winds is clearly visible, such as wooden elements torn from the houses and scattered around the area.

For her part, meteorologist Molly McCollum shared a video on the social network X showing the flooding in downtown Sarasota.

Similarly, radio host Mike Gallagher shared a video on the social network X where he shows his way to work, commenting on how Tampa Bay was beginning to churn as Hurricane Helene approaches.

"Tampa Bay is starting to get a little angry this morning in anticipation of Helene," Gallagher expressed in his post, showing the rough sea.

Hurricane Helene, which on Wednesday impacted both the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and the western region of Cuba, is heading towards Florida, where it has been warned that it could intensify and cause devastation, noted Univisión.

Specialists from the National Hurricane Center of the U.S. expect that Helene could intensify to reach category 4 before making landfall on the northwest coast of Florida, particularly in the Big Bend area.

In addition, they indicated that the swells are expected to reach heights of up to 6.1 meters (20 feet), which has led to the evacuation of residents to safer areas. Furthermore, the closure of schools and the declaration of states of emergency across the southeast of the country have been ordered.

Hurricane Helene reached category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale on the morning of this Thursday as it approaches the Florida coast as a dangerous cyclonic system.
