A total of 62 Cuban migrants were deported by the United States government by air.

The group, made up of seven women and 55 men, arrived on Thursday afternoon at the "José Martí" International Airport in Havana.

According to the official newspaper Granma, eight of the returnees had illegally left the country by sea. The rest left legally by air but then embarked on an irregular journey to reach the U.S. border.

They also reported that one of the returnees was transferred to a prison for being linked to a crime in the national territory.

Between January and August 2024, the deportations of Cuban migrants from the United States to Cuba intensified. The first flight of the year, with 37 Cubans on board, arrived in Havana on January 25. In March, a plane with 61 deported Cubans landed in Cuba, bringing the total to 149 repatriated individuals for the year so far. By April, U.S. authorities returned 47 migrants, and another 52 rafters were repatriated.

In the following months, deportations continued. In May, 45 Cubans were repatriated, and in June, a flight with 56 deportees landed in Havana. By the end of August, the total had surpassed one thousand Cubans deported in 65 operations from various countries, including the United States. On one of the recent flights, 48 Cubans returned in August, with several detained for pending charges on the island.

This migration crisis shows a constant trend of detentions and repatriations of Cubans attempting to enter the United States.
